This article describes step-by-step process of setting up the my site infrastructure in the SharePoint Farm.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Prerequisite for setting up My Sites is having user profiles import or sync up and running. You can read more on <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/index.php\/2012\/07\/23\/setting-user-profile-synchronization-service-in-sharepoint-2013\/\">user profiles sync in my previous article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When this has been configured, we can start configuring my sites:<\/p>\n<p>The first step us to go create (according to the best practices) own web application for hosting my sites. Go to the central administration, Application management, \u201cManage web applications\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/011.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"01\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"01\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/01_thumb1.png\" width=\"435\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And create a dedicated web application (sd2013:101 in my example here)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"02\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"02\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/02_thumb.png\" width=\"427\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, the next step would be to create a site collection in the root of the newly created web application. You can of course create it inside some other managed path other than root, but since we have dedicated Web Application, root seems like an obvious choice.<\/p>\n<p>Site Collection must have \u201c2013\u201d experience and use \u201cMy Site Host\u201d template.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/031.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"03\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"03\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/03_thumb1.png\" width=\"427\" height=\"497\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After Site Collection has been created, click on the \u201cManaged Paths\u201d&#160; in the web application that you created to host My Sites.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/041.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"04\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"04\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/04_thumb1.png\" width=\"429\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Add a new managed path with wildcard inclusion. Click on the \u201cService Connections\u201d button to\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/061.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"06\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"06\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/06_thumb1.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>..see if right service applications are set up. <\/p>\n<p>If you choose \u201cCustom\u201d (instead of the \u201cDefault\u201d) in the Edit the following group of connections drop down, select any service applications to which you want to connect the web application. The most important ones re User Profile service application, the managed metadata service application, and the Search service application.<\/p>\n<p>In my case, I\u2019ll just proceed with \u201cdefault\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/071.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"07\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"07\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sharedove.com\/adisjugo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/07_thumb1.png\" width=\"444\" height=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to set up the self service site creation.
