“Uninstall previous versions” problem when installing Microsoft Office 2013

I have just tried to install the new Microsoft Office 2013, and got the beautiful message:

profplus

I did have the Office 2013 Preview, but I have uninstalled it completely, including language packs and such. So what the heck is the problem here?

And, in God’s name, what is “Microsoft Professional Plus 2013”?!

Whatever. Such a program definitely did not exist in my Programs and Features list, so I needed to look deeper. If you come across the same (or similar) problem, here is the resolution:

In Windows Explorer, go to the “C:WindowsInstaller” folder

installer-folder

Right-click on the header row, and click on “More” to see more columns.

Find the column “Subject” and include it in in header row:

04

Sort on the Subject column – and find your problematic application. There is also my “Microsoft Professional Plus”. Right-click it and uninstall.

And that’s it. Reboot might be needed, though.
